Premera Blue Cross provides quality health care products, including health insurance, vision, dental, life, and long-term care coverage. Premera began as a hospital repayment plan for teachers in Dallas, Texas back in 1929; by 1939 they were offering their services to members across the country. Operations of Premera changed, in 2002, when Premera created an innovative approach to health care with a program called Dimensions. With Dimensions, Premera’s mission is to raise the standard of health care quality and services over and above what others offer. As of March 2011, Premera serves over 1.5 million members.

Premera’s health plans cater to individuals and families, small groups of 2-199 employees, and groups of over 200 employees. They also offer comprehensive dental plans and additional coverages to Medicare plans. Additional plans include Catastrophic Coverage which covers prescription drugs and preventative care, as well as medical services for serious illnesses or injuries sustained by the member. Value plans offer specific coverages including check-ups and hospital coverage for major illnesses or accidents. Comprehensive plans come with 2 choices of coinsurance that you would be responsible for; either you pay 20 or 30 percent of the services before your insurance plan will kick in.
