Abscesses can also occur within the body and present a more serious issue.
The main cause of an abscess is the blockage of certain glands, such as the sebaceous glands or sweat glands. It can also be due to minor cuts of the skin. If irritated and/or untreated the abscesses may have a tendency to get infected and require further treatment. The main form of treatment for an abscess is evaluation of the area and draining of the abscess. For those with abscesses present within the body, more aggressive treatments may be needed.

If you are changing from a prior insurer to a group health plan, you will most likely have your abscess medical treatments covered by the new plan without having to endure a waiting period so long as you have had 12 months of continuous coverage. On the other hand, if you or a family member is applying for insurance through an individual insurance company and have not had prior coverage, you may have to endure a waiting period before the abscess issues can be treated and ultimately paid for. The solution to this scenario is to either shop around for another insurer or put up with the waiting period and pay out of pocket for the abscess treatment if the costs are not too great.
