Blue Cross Blue Shield of Wyoming traces its earliest days to the 1940s as two separate pre-paid health care plans to give local employees easier access to physicians and hospital services. The two early companies were merged into BCBS of Wyoming in 1976, which today serves more than 100,000 Wyoming residents (as of March 2011).
BCBS of Wyoming has always maintained an active community presence, and in 1990 organized the Caring Foundation of Wyoming to provide basic healthcare for Wyoming children. BCBS of Wyoming also underwrites dental and vision coverage at affordable prices. In 2009, BCBS of Wyoming paid out over $370 million in claims.
