Each plan is measured in 3 major areas, which include member satisfaction, preventative care, and treatment. When combined, these 3 areas are assigned a score from 1-100 as well as a star rating. Companies with five stars are considered to be in the top ten percent of the group and companies with a 1 star rating are placed in the bottom ten percent.

According to this report, which was conducted by JD Power and Associates, the #1 health insurance company in the nation is Harvard Pilgrim Healthcare, who services customers in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Maine. Harvard Pilgrim Healthcare received the highest rating in the country for the 5th year in a row. This year, their rating was 91.1%.

Harvard Pilgrim excelled in member satisfaction, which includes doctor communication and handling of claims; prevention, which includes cancer and disease screening and immunization; and treatment, which includes asthma and diabetes control.

The Top Five Health Insurance Companies

Harvard Pilgrim Health Care of New England (90.2%), Tufts Associated Health Maintenance Organizations (89.9%), Grand Valley Health Plan (89.4%), and Capital Health Plan (89%) rounded out the top five for commercial health care plans.
