The Blue Shield commitment to community education and wellness initiatives includes the Blue Shield of California Foundation, which works to make health care more widely available to all and combats domestic violence. - Access+HMO and Access+Value: Blue Shield’s Health Management Organization (HMO) plans emphasize preventive car and affordable co-pays, with optional vision, dental coverage, or maternity coverage.
- Shield Spectrum PPO 500, 750, 1500, 2000, and 5000: These innovative Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) plans allow members to design their own level of coverage and care, and include preventive treatment options, prescription drug benefits, and other specialized service choices.
- Shield Spectrum PPO Savings Plans: Catastrophic coverage with high deductibles and a pre-tax HSA for members who can’t afford high premiums and who like the freedom to manage their own care. Insurance benefits kick in for serious illness and accidents.
Blue Shield of California Health Insurance Awards
Blue Shield of California earned second place in the 2010 Best of Blue Awards for its innovative Ethics in Action! Program. Another major achievement of Blue Shield of CA: In 2009 it won the American Heart Association’s Platinum Award as a premiere Start! Fit-Friendly Company promoting workplace heart health.
