Colorado Family Health Plans (CO)
Family health insurance can be obtained one of two ways; through a group health plan or individual health plan. Group health plans are commonly offered by employers as a part of a benefits package and they are much cheaper than an individual plan. You can also purchase a group health plan if you need coverage for your family or business. Group health plans can either be PPO, POS, HMO, or HSA.
If you can't afford to purchase health care for your family, you may qualify for Medicaid or Child Health Plan Plus (CHP+).
Individual Health Coverage in Colorado (CO)
Individual health plans can be purchased through private insurance dealers, and though they may be more costly, at times they may be better able to suit your family's needs.
If you get turned down for coverage through normal insurance companies in Colorado, you may be eligible for Cover Colorado, a subsidized state program for uninsurable individuals. For more information, you may contact the Cover Colorado administrator.

Health Insurance Laws in Colorado (CO)
The State of Colorado has strict laws with health insurance companies. For all health insurance plans, the insured has the right to know exactly what the insurance policy does and does not cover, the right to complain and appeal any plan decisions they disagree with, coverage for emergency room care, and a written explanation of the reason if a health insurer denies your application for enrollment or excludes a health condition you may have from coverage. The biggest reason Colorado insurance officials say they deny an application is because of preexisting medical conditions.
Pre-Existing Health Conditions in Colorado (CO)
If you have a preexisting medical condition, Colorado law says that the insurance company may turn you down based on the condition. Of course, many insurance companies still want your business, so they are allowed to insure you and place a 12-month rider in the policy which will exclude coverage of your pre-existing condition during the period of the rider. They may even put in a permanent exclusion clause for your pre-existing condition if they if they attach a written statement excluding such a condition at the time of your insurance purchase.
If you're unable to afford private care, you may seek help through Colorado Indigent Care. Colorado Indigent Care is a program run by the state which offers partial repayment to providers for eligible low-income uninsured and under-insured clients. While it seems difficult (in some cases nearly impossible) to get Colorado health insurance if you have a pre-existing condition, it is advised that you never intentionally fail to mention a pre-existing condition. If the insurance carrier investigates a claim and discovers fraudulent failure to disclose, they can "rescind coverage", which means that they have the right to refund all of your premiums back to policy inception and cancel the policy as if it never existed.
