Moving to Idaho? Changing health care providers? Either way we can help you find the right plan to serve you or your family best. Changing health plans is never fun, but we can help to make it easier by helping to match you with a quality provider in your area.
Some things to know if you are just moving to Idaho and need a new health insurance plan are:
- There may be a waiting period before your new coverage kicks in, so plan for that ahead of time.
- If you lose your group health insurance and meet other qualifications, you will qualify for HIPAA and can then buy individual health coverage from the Arkansas Comprehensive Health Insurance Pool (CHIP).
- Given that you are eligible, you cannot get denied for group coverage, though you can for individual.

Pre-Existing Health Conditions in Idaho (ID)
The good news is that Idaho has an Individual High Risk Reinsurance Pool that is specifically for individuals how have been rejected for coverage by at least one individual policy carrier on the basis of health status. After application and acceptance, an Idaho resident is guaranteed coverage under this High Risk Pool if all requirements are met — even if you are technically able to receive group coverage under COBRA.
It is important, however, to note that you are not eligible for this coverage if you are eligible for Medicaid and reject it, or if you could receive group coverage that is similar to price and benefits elsewhere and you reject the other form of health insurance coverage. The only other option for an Idaho resident is to shop for high-risk private insurance; but these plans have costly premiums and may have waiting periods for pre-existing conditions.
Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)
Thanks to HIPAA laws, everyone is eligible for at least one type of insurance that will cover preexisting conditions, regardless of what the condition may be. The two downsides to this, however, are that most of these HIPAA covered insurance policies must be found "offline", and that they are generally two to three times as expensive as health insurance without HIPAA coverage.
